Heat chana dal with salt until cooked over medium heat. Stir occasionally. It will take from 45 mins to more than 1 hour. |

Let chana dal cool after cooking. |

While chana dal is cooling, heat ghee in another pan over medium-high heat. Add onions, ginger, green chilies. Fry until onion is golden brown. Add dhansak masala or other alternates. |

Simmer for a minute or so. |

Add chicken and cook for 5-10 minutes in medium heat. |

Make sure chana dal is reasonable cooled. Coarsely blend it in a food processor. |

Add the chana dal paste to chicken and let it simmer for 10-20 minutes in low heat. |

Serve hot over Basmati rice. |
