Basmati, which is derived from word fragrance, is an Indian cultivar of long grain rice. Basmati rice or Basmati Chawal is famous for its delicate and aromatic flavors. Well cooked Basmati rice grains would not stick to each other and would have free flowing fluffy long grain texture. Basmati is generally preferred for any Indian recipes that call for use of rice.
