Matar Paneer (Green Peas and Cheese Curry)
Mattar Paneer Recipe

Mattar Paneer Indian dish with Paneer (Indian soft cottage cheese) and green peas (Mattar) in a creamy curry sauce. It is similar to Palak Paneer, where ground Palak (spinach) is used with Paneer.


8 oz. paneer
1 and half cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
½ cup half and half
½ cup tomatoes (chopped)
½ cup onions
2 to3 green chilli (finely chopped, adjust quantity according to preference)
2 teaspoons cilantro or coriander (chopped)
2 to 3 tablespoon ghee or vegetable oil
1 teaspoon ginger paste (optional)
1 teaspoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1 pinch of asafoetida (optional)
salt to taste

3 teaspoons cilantro or coriander leaves (chopped)

2 Heat ghee. Fry paneer until very golden light color. Remove from heat
3 In a separate Pan, heat ghee again.
4 Add the onions and fry till light golden brown.
5 Add all spices and salt. Stir few seconds.
6 Add tomatoes. Stir again for few minutes.
7 Add half and half. Simmer 5 minutes on low heat
8 Add peas and paneer. Simmer for a few minutes.
10 Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
